California, Day Two
July 23rd, 2009 @ 9:12 am

Its very hard to sleep at night with my parents. Why? Cause my dad gets knocked out quick & he snores earthquakes. Its also very easy to wake up in the morning. Why? Cause I’m a light sleeper & SOME PEOPLE ENJOY PEEING WITH THE DOOR OPEN. :sigh: Imagine that, waking up to the sound of someone urinating. LOL. Anyways, our parents left earlier than us since we were “sleeping,” & came back with green waffles! They then took us out to Phoc Loc Tho, which is basically a mini Vietnamese mall, for breakfast. The whole place made me very nostalgic of Vietnam, except it was tons cleaner. Although the parking lot reminded me a lot of the Eden center over here in VA because HORRIBLE DRIVERS times 100.

My Bun Bo Hue

Parent’s Squid stuffed with fish eggs.

I think this is called goi…

If you recalled my last post, I complained about how my meat in my sandwich was dyed super red. So imagine how excited I was about my bun bo hue which is even redder! After taking three tablespoons of the soup for taste, I talked to my dad about how it doesn’t compare to the bun bo hue (sorry, I don’t know what the translation is D:) in VA cause my dad ♥s this stuff. He then looked at me and told me, “Oh, it doesn’t taste good because you’ve been drinking oil.” SERIOUSLY DAD?! Thanks for letting me know. I feel like breaking out just thinking about it. No wonder that “soup” was so thick & oily D:

After that, we returned to the hotel to rest a bit. My parents went off to the high school reunion dinner (and didn’t return until 11PM with dead phones!! We were so worried!) so my aunt&uncle took us to In N Out burgers. Yum, more eating.

Corner for the emos!

Afterwards, my uncle was seriously considering going to eat vegetarian. He was very, very insistent on it. Nam&Trang almost caved into going too, and I was stuck with thinking, “Didn’t we just eat? Or was that just my wild imagination again?” Luckily his sons were complaining about not being able to go to the beach (saved by the munchins!). So off to Laguna beach we went.

Laguna beach is really pretty! But we went around the evening, so it was freezing. The kids, however, were very stubborn and convinced that they were not cold and kept running into the water anyways. Well Leon did, Tyson stopped after the first one cause he actually was smart enough to finally understand that it was cold. Leon didn’t stop until his sweater was soaked, and then he complained that he was cold.

Caught in the act!

Nam&Trang (matching outfits!) strip searching Leon.

Chi Trang single handedly dragging him out of the water.

After the beach, we went to eat Vegetarian at a very sketchy place & ended the night with sibling face masks ♥

  • Bun bo hue is the spicy one with tendon and stuff, right? Ah, I could really go for some tendon right now. There's no Vietnamese food in my neighborhood D:
  • Mai
Yep, thats the one :D. It has pork feet in it too sometimes, but I don't eat it cause it looks weird.

D:~ I don't think I could survive without Vietnamese food. Maybe you should try driving down to Santa Ana for some if you had the time, but I wouldn't be able to recommend any restaurants :/
